On The Court, Off The Court, And In Court: Symposium On School Hazing, Bullying, And Sports Liability Chicago, IL—A high school powder puff hazing left five Glenbrook North students injured last year, while issues of eligibility, bullying, Title IX, equality, and even drugs and gambling pervade high school athletics. Chicago-Kent Sports Law Professor Eldon Ham and local Sports Media Producer Terry Poulos have joined with Loyola University to launch a one-of-a-kind symposium targeting school administrators, principals, athletic directors, and coaches on topics dealing with both school and park district sports and legal issues. Sponsored by the newly formed Sports Is Education Foundation, this symposium, known as "Sports Is Education, Too," will be held on October 19, 2004, at Loyola's Water Tower Campus. Loyola University Athletic Director John Planek will co-host the event. Terry Poulos will serve as moderator. Other scheduled speakers include Sports Law Professor Eldon Ham; NBC Anchor Ann Davlantes, who broke the Northbrook hazing story; IHSA Director Dr. Marty Hickman; Susan Rogers, CEO of School Health; Bob Gardner, COO of the National Federation of High Schools; Mark Doran, President of Diamond Sports Academy; and School Law Expert Brooke Whitted. The "Sports Is Education, Too" symposium will be held in Chicago, IL at Loyola University's Water Tower Campus located at 25 East Pearson from 8:30AM to 1:00PM. The day will begin at 7:00AM with breakfast provided by Heaven on Seven. Reduced parking will be available across the street and lunch will be served. Admission is $25. Sponsors include Aerial Capital Management, Athletico, Cadaco Games, Coca-Cola, Cubby Bear, Distant Replays School Health, Field Turf, Heaven on Seven, New Century Bank, Superior Coffee, and Varsity Spirit, Inc.
